Hello everyone!

So sorry I’ve been AWOL for such a long time. Life got crazy (I know, lame excuse), and my computer died so I had to buy a new one, but I promise not to abandon this blog for such a long time again.

I have an abundance of book reviews waiting to be typed up and uploaded, so I’ll be working on them slowly but surely. I’m aiming for one every 2 days? I think that’s manageable.

In other news, I passed my original reading goal of 48 book, upped the ante to 60 books, and have passed it again! I’m at 62 books so far and I’ve raised my goal to a whopping 75!! Yay!

So if you haven’t had your fill of the Harlem Shake videos circling the interwebs yet, I have another one to share!

Here’s a library one!  (I can only hope that everyone in the video loves books and that’s why they’re participating, because if so, that’s a ton of high schoolers who go ape$#!t for libraries and that’s awesome!)

It’s Valentine’s Day.

I am single.

This should suck, no?

However, since I am currently single and since I have no one to give an official “Valentine” to, I thought I would instead share a whole bunch of valentines with YOU! (Yes, you! Sitting there staring at the computer. You must be single too or you’d be off with your better half, yes? I know I would …. Unless you’re waiting to go on a romantic date tonight, in which case your presence at your computer screen reading this entry is excused.)

While I was browsing to find just the right valentine to give to the blogosphere, I found someone who collected a whole bunch of AMAZING bookish/pop culture valentines. There are a wide range of great cards to choose from – Pride and Prejudice to Harry Potter to Lord of the Rings to The Hitchhicker’s Guide to the Galaxy. They’re all great. My favorites are from The Hunger Games:

You should definitely check out the rest at Getting a BA in BS and enjoy the ensuing laughter and literary pleasure derived from reading them.

Happy Valentine’s Day y’all!

I just found out from Scholastic that they are going to release the Harry Potter paperback books with a whole new series of covers in honor of 15th anniversary of the U.S. publication of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone!  I’m actually pretty excited about this. Especially if the covers look like this!

Now, I loved the original covers of the books and currently own the majority of the series in Hardcover with their pretty dust jackets, but I’m tempted to go out and buy the entire series in Paperback just to enjoy this look. They give a new feel to the series, reinvigorate them, and hopefully with the 15th anniversary approaching this year these new covers will invite a new generation of readers can discover the wonder that is Harry Potter.

In 2012 I read a total of 67 books comprised of 25,260 pages.  Wow.  I started out the year hoping to read just 15 books for pleasure since I was still writing my thesis and taking Masters classes.  I never thought I would accomplish so much.  I’m quite proud of myself truth be told.  And all it took was a little rearranging of spare time priorities.  When I was younger I would devour books at a pace similar to what I achieved this year, so it’s been nostalgic and fulfilling reading for pleasure again and reinvigorating my love of books and literature.

In 2013 I hope to do something similar, with a bit of a twist.  This past year I read a lot of YA books since that is the genre that I hope to work in.  I wanted to do my research and know the kinds of books and authors that the companies were producing.  This upcoming year I hope to read a similar number of books but throw in 12 new classic pieces of literature – after all, that is what I’ve dedicated 6 years of my life to studying.  So here’s what I’m planning:

2013: Another Year in Books

  • 48 books total
  • 12 Classics
  • 6 friend recommendations

This should allow me to read what I love reading while also expanding my genre horizons and continuing to improve upon and do justice to my literary background. It’s a lower number than what I achieved this year because it’s something reasonable that I can achieve even if my life changes drastically (aka – getting a new job, which I certainly hope will happen). Plus, I love reaching goals and setting new ones.

So, last but not least, I’m taking recommendations! I have a few classics in mind and I have a couple friend recommendations (which can be any genre of any time period) so leave a comment on what book you think I just HAVE to pick up in 2013.

Happy New Year y’all! 😀

Happiness = Books

Of course!

Of course!

This went viral on Facebook a while ago, but it’s something that’s just so true in my life. Whenever I’m going through a tough situation, a trip to the bookstore for some book therapy always makes me feel better.

I’ve printed out several copies that I keep around in various places because it make me smile. 🙂

Hello world!

I thought I should start out by first explaining what you’ll find here on this blog.  Then you can decide for yourself if you’d like to know more.  But beware, because I’m going to try and make this sound as “exciting” and “cool” as I can.

So here’s the dish: this blog is related to all things bookish. While primarily consisting of book reviews and ramblings, I’ll likely throw in book related things that amuse me and that I’d like to share.  It could be serious, it could be funny, it could be downright boring, but it will always relate to books.  If you’re a bibliophile (book lover), a bibliomaniac (book collector), or even a biblioklept (book stealer – for shame!) you’ll find something good here.

The books I review will focus on the Young Adult & Children’s Literature genres because those are the manuscripts I’d like to work with in publishing industry.  I’m constantly educating myself on what’s trending out there.  Yet because I do need some kind of variety in my reading diet, there will also be adult book reviews.

I won’t be officially starting this blog until 2013, but I’ll be updating, developing, and adding things here until then.

Happy reading!
